NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 16 Sooners (4-0) will face their first road test of the season at No. 11 San Diego (2-1) on Feb. 24-25.  OU will also be facing its first ranked opponent after sweeping Western Illinois in a four-game set over the weekend.  The Sooners and Toreros will face off on Tuesday at 4 p.m. CT at Cunningham Baseball Stadium.  The midweek series concludes on Wednesday with another 4 p.m. first pitch.

OU and San Diego have met on three previous occasions with the Sooners owning a 2-1 edge.  the most recent meeting came two in 2007 at Petco Park in San Diego.  Oklahoma won that meeting, 6-4, over then No. 22 San Diego in the Tony Gwynn Classic.  The Sooners also won the first meeting in the series, a 10-9 win over the Toreros in 1994 in Fullerton, Calif.  San Diego's lone win in the series came in 2001, a 14-2 victory in San Diego.

San Diego was picked along with Pepperdine to win the West Coast Conference.  The Toreros won the league last season with a 44-17 overall mark and 16-5 conference record.  San Diego returns 17 letterwinners from that squad which is led again by 11th-year head coach Rich Hill.  Toreros opened the season at the MLB Urban Classic and defeated Southern University and Bethune Cookman, while dropping Sunday's contest to San Diego St.

Junior RHP A.J. Griffin is perhaps the star of San Diego's 2009 squad.  Griffin is on the Golden Spikes Watch list after saving 14 games a year ago with a 1.96 ERA.  Offensively, rightfielder James Meador, a first team all-conference member in 2008, led San Diego with a .374 average with 57 RBIs  last season.
