NORMAN, Okla.—The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team heads to University Park, Pa., Friday to take on two opponents from the Big Ten Conference.
The Sooners will face the Penn State Nittany Lions Friday, Feb. 20 at 5 p.m. The Nittany Lions (2-5) are coming off two home losses, falling to Virginia Commonwealth, 5-2, and Denver, 5-2, last weekend. Friday's match will be the first meeting in program history between Penn State and Oklahoma.
Following Friday's match, OU will play the Purdue Boilermakers (3-4) Saturday, Feb. 21 at noon. The Sooners hold a 1-0 series advantage over the Boilermakers. The two teams last met in 1981 with OU claiming the victory, 6-3. Purdue enters Saturday's match coming off a 7-0 loss to No. 14 Notre Dame.
"I expect two very hard fought matches this weekend,” OU head coach David Mullins said. “I believe it is just going to come down to who wants it a little more. It should be great couple of days of tennis."
Sophomore Ana-Maria Constantinescu, ranked No. 6 in the Central Region, looks to remain undefeated at the No. 1 singles position this weekend. Constantinescu is 3-0 in singles at the No. 1 spot, including a win over No. 72 ranked Tiffany Welcher of Alabama, 7-5, 6-3.
