NORMAN, Okla. - The latest addition to L. Dale Mitchell Park, a new scoreboard with LED video display, is nearing completion. The remainder of the video board was added to the 51-foot high structure in left-center field on Tuesday and on Wednesday, work began to add lettering to the top of the board.

The Sooners and OU fans will enjoy a brand new scoreboard complete with a LED video display that it is located directly to the right of the existing board at the ballpark, which will be torn down before the season starts.
Sooner fans will get their first chance to see the new board in person this weekend as Oklahoma opens the 2009 season at home against Western Illinois. The first game of the series between the Sooners and Leathernecks is slated for a 3 p.m. first pitch on Friday, Feb. 20. The series continues with a doubleheader on Saturday that begins at noon. The four-game set concludes on Sunday with a 1 p.m. game.
The entire project is expected to be completed by March 1.
The video board measures 36 feet wide and 21 feet tall, while the scoreboard will display all of the normal features of a regular baseball board in addition to the speed of the pitches during games, another new feature at Sooner baseball games this season.
The Sooners also added a brand new, state-of-the art, sound system to L. Dale Mitchell Park. The new audio system contains 20-plus speakers that were installed over the seating area for a better fan experience.
Earlier this year, the baseball team opened a practice facility that features indoor hitting cages and an outdoor practice infield.
