Men's Tennis Sweeps ORU

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma men's tennis team swept its second straight opponent defeating Oral Roberts University 7-0 at The Greens Golf and Country Club in Oklahoma City.  

"I thought the guys played better than they did last match against UTPA and that is all you can ask for," OU head coach Paul Lockwood said. "We are just trying to get better everyday and every match."  

The Sooners (2-0) began the dual by sweeping ORU (1-1) in doubles competition. Junior Andrei Daescu teamed with junior Blake Boswell to defeat Alexander Dargel and Andrey Savin of ORU, 8-3, at the No. 1 spot.   

Senior Sergey Avdeyev paired with sophomore Ionut Beleleu at the No. 2 position, defeating Oleksandr Kotsuik and Dmitry Suslov, 8-4.  

Freshman David Pultr and freshman George Chanturia combined to defeat Dario Beslic and Peter Sullivan, 8-2.  

The Sooners continued to role in singles competition. At the No. 1 spot Daescu fought hard to defeat Kotsuik 6-3, 6-4. Avdeyev represented Oklahoma at the No. 2 spot defeating Suslov, 6-4, 6-2.

Competing in the No. 3 spot for the Sooners was Pultr, who defeated Dargel, 6-1, 6-2. At the No. 4 spot Beleleu defeated Beslic, 6-4, 6-2. Boswell continued to hold down the No. 5 spot with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Savin. Chanturia rounded out singles play with a 6-1, 6-3 win.  

"I think this is a good stepping stone," Lockwood said. "Hopefully we will have a good couple days of practice before we go out to Seattle."  

Oklahoma will now head to the West Coast to dual the University of Washington and Boise State in Seattle, Wash., on Feb. 6 and 7.
