PRIMM, Nev. – The 12th-ranked University of Oklahoma wrestling team (4-0-1) stands in third place after the first day of competition at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Primm, Nev. OU is in contention for the championship after four Sooners advanced to the semifinals Friday afternoon.
Sooners recording 2-0 records on the day were Kyle Terry (149 pounds), Jeff James (174), Eric Lapotsky (197) and Nathan Fernandez (285). The four will battle to advance in the championship bracket in tomorrow's final day of competition.
Additionally, Zack Bailey at 141 pounds and Shane Vernon at 157 pounds are still alive in the consolation bracket after 3-1 records on the day.
Oklahoma accumulated 76 points and trails only Cornell (79 points) and leader Ohio State with 89 points. Boise State (68.5) and Nebraska (67) round out the top five.
Action commences Saturday at 12 p.m. CST, with the finals scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. CST.
