NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma wrestling squad will conclude the preseason this Thursday, Nov. 5 by hosting its annual Red/White scrimmage held inside the Howard McCasland Field House in Norman at 7 p.m.

The ranking matches will pit the top two wrestlers in each weight class to help determine starters for the upcoming season. The University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos will also hold its Bronze/Blue ranking match alongside the Sooners.

"This is going to be a fan's delight with a lot of great matches right out of the gate for us," head coach Jack Spates said. "A lot of returning starters are going to be pushed by a very talented freshmen class."

Oklahoma, ranked preseason No. 18 by Intermat and No. 17 by W.I.N., returns eight starters from a squad that collected 16 dual wins last season, the most since 2002. Highlighting the returning group is 2009 Big 12 champion Kyle Terry, who collected a 30-3 overall record last season.

Other returning starters include Zack Bailey (141), Seth Vernon (149 pounds), Chad Terry (157), Shane Vernon (157), Jeff James (174), Eric Lapotsky (197) and Nathan Fernandez (285).

"There are going to be a lot of great bouts, a lot of great action," Spates said. "We are excited to see where we are and what we need to improve on to start the season."

OU will officially kick off the 2009-10 season next Wednesday, Nov. 11 when it travels to Edmond to take on the University of Central Oklahoma at 7 p.m.
