NORMAN, Okla. – In an effort to increase notoriety and ATP rankings the University of Oklahoma men's tennis program sent freshman Costin Paval to compete in his second $50,000 Challenger event in Charlottesville, Va., Saturday, Oct. 31.
Paval entered the qualifying draw due to his ATP ranking of 995. Paval dropped his first round match to John Houston Barrick, 6-3, 6-2.
Head coach John Roddick continues to promote Sooner players in the professional circuit by sending them to ATP events like the Challenger Tour. Roddick knows the importance of competing in ATP events. Prior to being named head coach at OU Roddick worked with top touring pros Andy Roddick, Mardy Fish and Wayne Odesnik.
The Challenger Tour is the springboard to fame for the future stars of professional tennis. At these events up-and-coming players compete to earn ATP Ranking points that qualify them to compete at the very top levels of competition.
Look for Roddick to continue promoting his players at future ATP events.
