Connected Sooner Fans Win Prizes
October 28, 2009 | Athletics
NORMAN, Okla. -- We sent out a request to Sooner fans on our official Twitter feed Tuesday morning.
Precisely at 11:49 a.m., we posted this message: "First Sooner fan to email us pic with OU-inspired pumpkin wins online store gift certificate. Email pic to soonersportscom@gmail.com"
Within a minute and 27 seconds, we had our winner. Jon from Norman emailed us the photo below (top left) of a pumpkin decorated as a Sooner coach. For his quick work and to reward his loyalty in subscribing to the official OU Athletics Twitter feed, Jon won a gift certificate to the OU Athletics online store.
Although SoonerSports.com is the department's central platform, OU utilizes Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to connect with fans in new ways. For example, the communications staff uses Twitter to instantaneously update Sooner fans directly from Norman. Earlier this month, fans subscribed to our Twitter feed received word from Coach Stoops virtually seconds after he spoke in the Red Room following practice.
Although misinformation and rumors are rampant online, the communication comes directly from the Athletics Department, so fans are certain of the validity. The lesson? If you want to be among the first to know and have confidence that the information is direct from the source, sign up for the official OU Athletics Department Twitter feed.
Watch for a new announcement on the OU Athletics Facebook page soon.
Below is the winner of our Twitter contest and a sample of the more interesting submissions from Sooner fans. The Landry Jones pumpkin complete with a No. 12 and mustache receives a special mention.
