NORMAN, Okla. — Seven members of the University of Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams were named to the 2009 Academic All-Big 12 Cross Country Team announced Wednesday by the Big 12 Conference.
Rob Sorrell, an Aviation major, Jacob Boone, a Pre-HSS major, Kevin Williams, a Finance major, and Bill Kogel, undecided on a major, were all named to the men's first team with a minimum grade point average of 3.20.
On the women's side, Lindsay Pierson, a Health and Exercise Science major, and Molly Ferguson, undecided, were both named to the first team. Lauren Watson, a Psychology major, was named second team with a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his/her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Big 12 Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Missouri in Columbia, Mo. on Saturday. The event will begin with the men's 8,000-meter race at 10 a.m. CT, followed by the women's 6,000-meter run at 11 a.m.
The top men's and women's teams are crowned league champion while the top 15 individuals in each race are named all-conference.
