IRVING, Texas -- Oklahoma was selected to finish fifth in the Big 12 Conference in a crowded race at the top of the coaches' preseason poll.
The Sooners are the defending Big 12 Champions.
Baylor was picked the preseason favorite to win the regular season title with five first-place votes. Kansas and Texas tied for second, each with three first-place votes, three points behind Baylor.
Texas A&M had one first-place vote and was fourth, one vote ahead of the Sooners.
Nebraska was sixth, Iowa State seventh, Kansas State eighth, Oklahoma State ninth, Texas Tech 10th, Colorado 11th and Missouri 12th.
Coaches were not allowed to rank their own team.
Last week, the league's coaches picked OU's Danielle Robinson for the five-member Preseason All-Big 12 Team. Whitney Hand was an honorable mention.
The Sooners begin regular-season play Friday, Nov. 13, against Mercer at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman at 7 p.m. The Sooners hold a scrimmage exclusive to season-ticket holders on Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. and begin exhibition play Nov. 4 against Rogers State at 7 p.m. at the Lloyd Noble Center.
