Oklahoma Postgame Notes

January 21, 2009 | Men's Basketball

Jan. 21, 2009

• The Sooners became the first team in the country to win 18 games this season.  They are 18-1 overall and 4-0 in Big 12 play.

• OU's 72 points marked a Nebraska opponent season high.  The Cornhuskers entered tonight's contest ranked No. 2 in the NCAA in scoring defense, allowing just 55.8 points per game.  NU hadn't allowed a team to score more than 66 points this season.

• Blake Griffin recorded his NCAA-leading 15th double-double with 27 points and 18 rebounds.  Griffin was 7-of-8 from the field (.875) after intermission (16 points and 11 rebounds in the second half).

• The game marked Griffin's Big 12-record eighth 20-point, 15-rebound game this season.  The 6-10 sophomore forward entered tonight's contest tied with Texas' Kevin Durant (2006-07) and Kansas State's Michael Beasley (2007-08) for the most 20-point, 15-board contests in a single season.

• Griffin's 18-board tally was the highest by a Big 12 player in a conference game this season.  Griffin also holds the non-conference high by a Big 12 player this year with three 21-rebound performances.

• Griffin's 18 rebounds were two more than Nebraska's starting five tallied.  He also added two assists, three blocks and two steals.

• The Sooners hit 14-of-26 shots (.538) in the second half after shooting just .393 in the opening stanza (11-of-28).

• OU opened the game with a pair of 3-point makes (Austin Johnson and Tony Crocker), but Nebraska followed with an 11-3 run and led 11-9 at the 15:45 mark of the first half.  It marked the first time that the Sooners have trailed since the 1:21 mark of the opening half of the Kansas State game, a span of just under 123 minutes (122:54).  OU never trailed in its last two contests against Texas and Texas A&M.

• The Sooners hit five of their first seven shots (.714) tonight, but finished the half making just six of their last 21 (.286).

• Oklahoma hit nine of its 25 (.360) 3-point attempts (both numbers marked team highs in conference play for the Sooners).  OU entered tonight's contest having attempted a total of 31 shots from long range in its three previous Big 12 games (10.3 a game).

• Reigning Big 12 Player of the Week Austin Johnson scored 15 points and added five assists against one turnover in 35 minutes.  The Sooners are 20-1 since the start of the 2007-08 season when Johnson scores in double figures (6-0 this year).

• Johnson's 3.3-1 assist-to-turnover ratio leads the Big 12 (85 assists and 26 turnovers).  He entered the day ranked sixth nationally in the statistic.

• Tony Crocker added 12 points while matching Johnson's five assists.  His five handouts marked a season best for the 6-6 guard (most since dishing out five at Texas Tech on Feb. 16, 2008).  Crocker has scored in double figures in nine of the last 12 games.

• Ryan Anderson scored a team-high 19 points for Nebraska, but was limited to a lone field goal after intermission.  He was 6-for-10 from the field in the first half (4-for-7 on 3's) and 1-for-6 in the second half (0-for-5 on 3's).

• OU hosts Baylor (15-3, 3-1) on Saturday at 3 p.m. CST.  The game will be televised by ESPNU.
