NORMAN, Okla. -- The November issue of SLAM Magazine has the Sooners as the No. 1 women's college basketball team in its preseason top-10 rankings.

Oklahoma leads No. 2 Tennessee, No. 3 Connecticut, No. 4 Stanford and No. 5 North Carolina in the early outlook.

OU has also been ranked No. 7 by Athlon and No. 10 in Lindy's preseason issue.

SLAM writer Clay Kallam writes that seniors Ashley and Courtney Paris will provide the sense of urgency necessary to carry OU through the season.

Excitement about the Sooners is also high due to the return of OU's supporting cast, which includes 2008 Big 12 Freshman of the Year Danielle Robinson and veterans Nyeshia Stevenson and Amanda Thompson.

OU is the top-ranked Big 12 team in SLAM and Lindy's and rests just behind Texas A&M (No. 4) in the Athlon preseason top 25.

Oklahoma will face a bevy of top 25 teams in 2008-09. OU's Preseason WNIT bracket could match up the Sooners against both Arizona State and North Carolina at the Lloyd Noble Center before the end of November.  Also on the schedule are Connecticut (Nov. 30), Tennessee (Feb. 2) and, of course, the nation's toughest conference slate.

The Sooners begin the season with exhibitions against Western State College of Colorado (Nov. 6) and Oklahoma Christian (Nov. 11) before hosting UC Riverside in the opening round of the Preseason WNIT on Nov. 15.
