NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma wrestling squad is preparing to move into its new state-of-the-art facility as renovations to the Howard McCasland Field House are shaping up this offseason.
The 9,600 square-foot addition to the Port Robertson Wrestling Center has been added onto the north side of existing facility and showcases a workout room with four practice mats which the team has recently been able to utilize for voluntary summer workouts.
Also included is a separate club team practice area and team training room. A coach's locker room, an open area for weight training and an equipment room completes the addition.
The $1.3 million expansion project was spurred on by a $1 million donation from former Sooner wrestler Rodney Thorton.
Upon completion, the renovations will give the OU wrestling one of the finest practice and locker room facilities in the nation.
