NORMAN, Okla. -- Construction on the Gregg Wadley Tennis Pavilion reached an new stage Monday as the top of the structure began to take shape.
With all but the south side of the University of Oklahoma's new indoor tennis facility erect, the construction crews have begun to assemble to roof supports. The first of 10 major steel girders was put in place today. Aside from the 10 major girders, there will be 180 bar joist girders that will support the roof when completed.
Over the next few weeks the crew will also be preparing to pour post-tension concrete, which will be the surface for the North Courts.
Located just east of the Headington Family Tennis Center outdoor courts, the new indoor facility is scheduled for a December 2008 completion.
Highlights of the new, 55,000 square-foot facility include six air-conditioned courts, championship-quality lighting and surface, and approximately 375 chair-back seats for spectators, which are elevated between the courts.
Upon its completion, the new Gregg Wadley Tennis Pavilion will give OU's men's and women's tennis programs one of the finest practice and competition venues in the country.
