Baseball Summer League Update 10

NORMAN, Okla. -- Throughout the summer, SoonerSports.com will bring fans weekly updates of current Sooners competing in the numerous summer baseball leagues around the country. Fans can also access information on former Sooners playing in Major League Baseball and its minor league affiliates.
The tenth installment, along with links to each of the players' statistics, are listed below:
Summer Collegiate League
Bryant Hernandez and Elliott Blair's Lodi Grapesox won the Northern California League. The Grapesox finished the season with a 37-15 record. Blair had a grand-slam in the third game of the championship series to give the Grapesox the win and due to his solid performance, Blair received the MVP award for the championship series. For the season, Blair hit .329, had five home runs and 27 RBIs. Hernandez finished the season hitting .309 and had eight stolen-bases and 21 RBIs.
Antwonie Hubbard, Matt Harughty and Bryan Groth's Anchorage Glacier Pilots won the Alaska Baseball League. After winning their league the Pilots set their sights on the National Baseball Congress World Series. After starting out the tournament 3-0 the Pilots had their first loss, 9-3 to the Springfield Generals. However, Hubbard had a strong outing, striking out 10 batters in just 4 2/3 innings. The Pilots were then eliminated from the tournament after losing to the Liberal BeeJays 10-2. The Pilots tied for ninth place in the 42-team tournament.
For the season, Matt Harughty made the ABL All-Star second team at third base and had a .953 fielding percentage. Antwonie Hubbard finished the season with a 2-0 record with 30 strikeouts and a 2.50 ERA.
Also playing in the Alaska Baseball League for the second place Mat-Su Miners were: Michael Rocha, Jeremy Erben and Garrett Richards. Michael Rocha received ABL First Team All-Star honors as a relief pitcher, and finished the season with a 0.32 ERA and had 23 strikeouts. Jeremy Erben finished the season with a 2.59 ERA and had 25 strikeouts.
OKLAHOMA IN THE MINORS
Eddie Cornejo extended his hitting streak to nine games for the Tulsa Drillers (Class AA) after Thursday contest. IN that span, he has 18 hits, four RBIs, and four runs. For the season, he is hitting .305 with 40 hits and 15 RBIs.
Chuckie Caufield has recently put together a five-game hitting streak for the Brevard County Manatees (Class A). During the span he has seven hits, three runs and two RBIs. For the season, he has four home runs, 47 RBIs and eight stolen bases.
SOONERS IN THE MAJORS
On August 13, Ryan Rohlinger made his MLB debut for the San Francisco Giants after being called up from the Double-A Connecticut Defenders. In his debut, he made the start at third base and drove in a run off his first career hit, a doubl down the right-field line. Since his June 23 promotion to the Defenders, Rohlinger was batting .296 with 27 runs, 12 doubles, six homeruns and 19 RBIs in just 44 games. He is the eighth former Sooner currently playing in the Majors.
On August 9, Rocky Cherry made his 2008 debut for the Baltimore Orioles on Aug. 9. He pitched an inning of spotless relief, in a 9-0 win over the Texas Rangers. In five relief appearances for the Orioles, Cherry has tossed three scoreless outings. Before being moved up to the majors, Cherry played for the Double-A Norfolk Tide. In his last 17 games with the Tide, Cherry posted a 0.83 ERA with 22 strikeouts.
David Purcey got his first win for the Toronto Blue Jays, on August 13, with a 4-3 decision over the Detroit Tigers. Purcey had six scoreless innings and allowed only two hits while also registering four strikeouts.
Gregg Dobbs is riding a four-game hitting streak for the Philadelphia Phillies. During the span he has six hits, four RBIs, three runs and a home run. For the season, he is hitting .310 and has five homeruns and 20 RBIS.
