July 06, 2008 | Athletics

NORMAN, Okla. -- Have you seen what some former Sooners have been up to lately?

While school is out for the summer, there is still plenty to be excited about around the OU community with three former student-athletes heading to the 2008 Olympic Games and another tearing up the PGA Tour.

We bring you up to date on what some former Sooner student-athletes are doing to fulfill their lifelong dreams this summer while excelling at the highest stage in their respective sports.

Michael Blackwood Michael Blackwood
A native of Jamaica, Blackwood qualified for his third straight Olympic Games on June 29. A 400-meter specialist, he earned five All-America honors at Oklahoma from 1999-2000. Blackwood has one Olympic medal in his trophy case, a bronze from the 2000 Sydney Games as a member of Jamaica's 4x400-meter relay. He finished eighth in the 400 in 2004.

Jonathan Horton Jonathan Horton
Horton posted the top all-around score at the Olympic Trials on June 21 to secure his place on the U.S. men's gymnastics team. The most decorated gymnast in OU history, he has long been considered America's best young all-arounder and will be one of the leaders of Team USA in Beijing. Anthony Kim Anthony Kim
On July 6, Kim shot a final-round 65 to win the AT&T National. It was the second victory of the year for the 23-year-old who was a three-time All-American at OU from 2004-06. Kim has quickly established himself as one of the top young players on the PGA Tour and is so highly regarded talent-wise that he has even been mentioned as "the next challenger" to Tiger Woods.

Danny McFarlane Danny McFarlane
McFarlane also qualified for his third straight Olympic Games by finishing first in the 400-meter hurdles at the Jamaican national championships. An eight-time All-American at OU from 1995-97, he will look to capture his third Olympic medal. McFarlane took silver in the 400 hurdles in 2004 while grabbing a bronze as a member of Jamaica's 4x400-meter relay at the 2000 Sydney Games.

In the true spirit of Oklahoma Athletics, these individuals continue to be today's champions and tomorrow's leaders well beyond their careers in a Sooner uniform.
