Women's Big 12 Games Announced

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Big 12 Conference announced its women's basketball 2008-09 composite schedule Thursday, highlighted by a change in the format for the championship tournament.

The Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship will be held over four days at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City beginning Thursday, March 12. Quarterfinals are Friday, March 13, and semifinal-round games are Saturday, March 14. The championship game will be played Sunday, March 15.

Previously, no games were played the day before the championship game, which was played on a Saturday.

The release of the Big 12 slate completes Oklahoma's lineup of game after the team announced its non-conference schedule Monday.

Tip-off times and television coverage have not been finalized.

The Sooners will begin conference play on the road against Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday, Jan. 10, before hosting two league opponents in a row -- Kansas State on Jan. 14 and Texas A&M on Jan. 17 -- at the Lloyd Noble Center.

Oklahoma also hosts Texas on Jan. 25, Missouri on Jan. 31, Iowa State on Feb. 11, Baylor on Feb. 21, Oklahoma State on Feb. 28 and the home season finale against Texas Tech on Wednesday, March 4.

Other road games include a Jan. 21 contest at Colorado, at Baylor on Jan. 28, at Oklahoma State on Feb. 8, at Kansas on Feb. 14, at Texas Tech on Feb. 17, at Texas A&M on Feb. 23 and the regular-season closer against Texas on Sunday, March 8.

The Big 12 is coming off a banner season which saw 11 teams compete in 2008 postseason play -- a conference-record eight in the NCAA Championship and three in the WNIT. Also last season, the Big 12 became the first conference to record an 8-0 record in NCAA Championship first-round games.
