NORMAN, Okla. -- The OU men's basketball team recently visited Sigma Alpha Epsilon to recognize the fraternity as the winner of the inaugural Greek Challenge.

The prize... a 56-inch flat screen HDTV!

Coach Capel and members of the team delivered the big-screen and were treated to a backyard barbecue at the SAE house. The team used the event as an opportunity to personally thank the fraternity for its support and outstanding attendance throughout the 2007-08 season. The event was set up in cooperation with SAE as part of the team's ongoing effort to build a closer relationship with the entire student body.

"Cultivating a relationship with our student body is one of the most important things for our program," Capel said.

"We'd like to make our games an event and make our students feel like that's the place to be.  I think you do that by trying to get them to understand they are a huge part of our team.  Doing little initiatives like this competition with the Greek houses is just one way to show how important our students are to us."

The Greek Challenge is a friendly competition between all chapter houses which Coach Capel initiated this past season in an effort to help raise Greek attendance at men's basketball games.

"Students can provide energy, excitement and passion, and all of those things transfer to our team to help give us a home court advantage," Capel said. "If you go back to last year's Baylor game, for instance, I thought the kids behind the basket were incredibly instrumental in Baylor missing those two free throws with one second left.  Our students had a lot to do with that because of how loud they were and the energy they had."

SAE won this year's Challenge with the highest percentage of attendance from its members throughout the 2007-08 men's basketball season. The fraternity even rented out the CrimZone for the final home game, where they had over 100 energetic fans on the floor.
