NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's golf squad has been chosen to participate in the NCAA West Regional Championship, held May 15-17 at the Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.

The Sooners' selection marks the eighth consecutive year under head coach Jim Ragan that they have been chosen for the regional field, every year of his Oklahoma tenure.

Twenty-six other squads and six individuals will battle Oklahoma at the 54-hole event, with the top 10 team finishers and the top two individuals not on the advancing teams, moving on to the 2008 NCAA Men's Golf Championship, held May 28-31 in West Lafayette, Ind.

OU is the 22nd seed in the event and one of four Big 12 squads competing in the West Regional.  Other conference squads joining the Sooners are Texas Tech, Texas and Kansas State.

Oklahoma placed seventh at the '08 Big 12 Championship at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas.  The Sooners ended the four-round event at +48, competing at the Par 72, 7470-yard layout.

The Sooners finished 21st in last year's NCAA Central Regional in Sugar Grove, Ill. Leading Oklahoma was former OU letterwinner J.J. Wood who placed 29th.

OU closes out the regular season this weekend as it travels to Ardmore, Okla., for The Maxwell.  The 54-hole event will be contested at the par-70 Dornick Hills Country Club and is free to the public.
