LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The Oklahoma Sooners (29-20-1, 6-14-1 Big 12) were unable to avoid being swept by the Kansas Jayhawks (29-22, 8-13 Big 12) on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 9-4 decision at Hoglund Ballpark.

"This was a tough weekend, no doubt about that," head coach Sunny Golloway said.  "It all starts on the mound and we didn't throw the ball well this weekend."

Ryan Duke pitched 3 1/3 innings and dropped to 5-4 (four runs, five hits) with the loss.

Matt Harughty led the Sooners at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Kansas struck first in the bottom of the second as they put up three runs after a Ryne Price home run and an Erik Morrison double to left.

The Sooners got underway in the top of the fourth as Aljay Davis doubled off of the left field wall for a stand-up double to advance into scoring position.  Mike Gosse stepped to the plate and quickly moved Davis to third with a deep fly ball to center.  Aaron Baker plated Davis with a deep fly ball of his own to get the Sooners within two runs at 3-1.

Kansas plated one more in the fourth and extended its lead to 4-1.

Harughty came through for the Sooners as he belted his second home run of the season, just out of the left fielder's reach, in the top of the fifth to drive in Trey Sperring, who singled prior to Harughty's plate appearance.  The dinger moved the score to 4-3.

KU responded in the bottom of the fifth with one run as the Sooners committed an error that helped Kansas to a 5-3 lead.

OU threatened in the top of the sixth as J.T. Wise singled to left and Spencer Selby followed with a double over the right fielder's head to put Wise on third.  Sperring came to the plate but was forced into a pop out to the first baseman to end the threat.

Harughty beat out the throw of the Jayhawk shortstop for a lead-off infield single to begin the seventh.  Jamie Johnson proceeded to single up the middle and the hit allowed Harughty to move all the way to third.  Davis hit a sacrifice fly to center to drive in Harughty and in the process pull the visiting Sooners within one run at 5-4.

The Sooners started another threat in the top of the seventh after the Harughty run as Johnson had moved to second after a Gosse walk.  Baker hit a hard line drive that the KU second baseman laid out for and made a diving catch to end the inning.

The Jayhawks once again answered the bell after an OU run with three of their own in the bottom of the seventh extending their lead, again, to 8-4.

Oklahoma once again threatened in the top of the eighth as they loaded the bases with two outs.  After a Spencer Selby and Sperring walk, Casey Johnson came in to pinch hit and the swap worked as Johnson singled to load the bases.  Jaime Johnson then struck out swinging to halt the rally.

Kansas added another run in the eighth and OU went three up, three down in the ninth as KU took the victory, 9-4.

"We need to get some rest and workout and get ready for Kansas State," Golloway continued.

The Sooners return to Norman for a three-game set with the Kansas State Wildcats beginning on Friday at L. Dale Mitchell Park.  First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
