ARDMORE, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team stands in a tie for eighth after 36 holes of the 17th annual Perry Maxwell Intercollegiate at Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, Okla.

The Sooners finished the opening-day's play at even par.  The tournament utilizes a unique scoring format in which the top four scores from each hole count towards the team's score as opposed to the traditional top four rounds.

Oklahoma carded team scores of 282 (+2) and 278 (-2) on Saturday and stand just 13 shots out of fifth place in a scoring format where the standings can fluctuate quickly.

Michigan holds the overnight lead at 23-under, besting tournament host and seven-time reigning champion Oklahoma State by three shots.   Wolverine golfer Bill Rankin also leads the individual race by three shots at -7 after rounds of 67 and 66.

Pacing the Sooners was sophomore Jesse Schutte who stands 18th after rounds of 72 and 71 on the par-70, 6,453-yard layout.

A stroke behind Schutte at +4 is senior Phillip Bryan and freshman Liam Logan. Bryan rebounded from a tournament-opening 75 with a 1-under-par 69 on Saturday afternoon, while Logan carded back-to-back rounds of 72.

Rounding out the OU team scoring were Tyler Rody and Ryan Sirman who stand in 36th and 60th, respectively.  Rody carded scores of 74 and 73 while Sirman fired rounds of 80 and 81.

Competing unattached from team scoring were Eric Durbin (74-79) and Ben Blundell (75-79).  Durbin heads to Sunday's final round in 56th while Blundell stands in a tie for 57th.

Sunday's final round will commence with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. (CDT).  Live scoring is available at http://www.kxii.com/sports/headlines/7477157.html

Following the event, OU returns to action May 15-17 at the NCAA West Regional in Bremerton, Wash., at the Gold Mountain Golf Club. The Sooners will battle the field for one of 10 spots into the NCAA Championship.
