In the Sooners' tenth, Gosse plated Jamie Johnson and Aljay Davis, who doubled and walked, respectively, with two outs.
The come-from-behind victory, the 14th this season, was made possible with Aaron Baker's three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth. Baker (3-for-5, 4 RBIs) drove in Johnson and Gosse, after they singled earlier in the frame, to tie the game at 10 apiece.
Baker's clutch hitting came after Wichita State extended their one-run lead with two runs in the top of the ninth.
"Our guys kept fighting with their bats to find victory," said OU head coach Sunny Golloway. "The bottom line is, the win makes you feel good and you sleep better at night. Our focus tomorrow at 10:30 is to get on the bus, hope the rain holds off in Lawrence, because our destiny lies with the Big 12 games remaining on our schedule."
The win moves the Sooners' overall record to 29-17-1 (15-1 in mid week games), while Wichita State drops to 33-11 on the season.
Justin Kemp (0-1) received the loss after giving up the two runs in the 10th and Jake McCarter improved to 2-0 after pitching the final 1 2/3, despite giving up a solo home run to Andy Dirks to lead off the 10th.
Wichita State took the early lead after OU starter Antwonie Hubbard issued back-to-back walks in the first inning and then surrendered a two-run single to Clinton McKeever.
OU countered in its at-bat in the bottom half of the first inning. After WSU starter Tim Kelley sat down the first two batters he faced, Mike Gosse and Aaron Baker tagged him with consecutive singles. That brought up J.T. Wise, who found the gap in left center on a double that cleared the bases and tied the game at two runs apiece.
In the top of the third, the Shockers capitalized on another Hubbard walk, as McKeever singled in another run.
The Sooners struck again with two outs in the bottom of the fourth and took their first lead. Wise recorded the first out of the frame, sandwiched between a single by Baker and Trey Sperring. After Matt Harughty flied out to center, Spencer Selby sent his team-leading seventh home run of the season over the left-field fence.
Leading 5-3, OU pushed its lead to three runs with the second home run of the game. Jamie Johnson led off the sixth with a solo home run, his fourth of the year.
The Shockers regained the lead in the top of the sixth with five runs scored off five hits. The first three hits were allowed by reliever C.J. Blue, who entered in the top of the third for Hubbard (2 1/3 IP, 4 hits, 3 runs). With the bases loaded, Michael Rocha came out of the Sooner bullpen but the Shockers tagged him for an RBI single, three-run triple by Conor Gillaspie and an RBI ground out, giving WSU an 8-6 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Sooners narrowed the gap with Baker's RBI ground out, his 13th in the last 10 games. Wise and the Sooners almost had another two-out clutch hit, but the catcher's hard-hit ball to left-center field was caught by a diving Ryan Jones to end the threat.
