NORMAN, Okla. - Sophomore Andrei Daescu, ranked No. 30 in the ITA singles rankings, was selected to the singles play of the 2008 NCAA Championships. Daescu was one of 47 at-large selections the NCAA announced Wednesday.
The Bucharest, Romania, native compiled a 28-11 singles record on the season while holding down the No. 1 singles spot for the Sooners. Daescu also competed at No. 1 doubles for OU and teamed up with Federico Chavarria to finish with a season record of 14-7.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 21-26 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla., following the conclusion of the team championship (May 16-20).
The University of Tulsa will serve as host. All matches shall be the best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all will be used for all matches.
On Monday, Daescu was a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 singles team. Chavarria and Daescu were also named to the All-Big 12 doubles team.
