BEIJING -- The U.S. Women's Senior National Team earned the silver medal at the Good Luck Beijing Tournament, an Olympic test event, after falling to host China, 84-81, Saturday.
Katie Smith led the U.S. with 16 points. Sylvia Fowles had 14, Swin Cash scored 13 and Lisa Leslie had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the team's lone double-double.
Courtney Paris played six minutes and scored four points from 2-for-2 field goal shooting. Paris also had one rebound.
"I have to give all the credit to China," said USA head coach Anne Donovan. "They came out and played a tremendous game, they really attacked us in the first half with penetration and we struggled to contain it. We made some good runs in the second half, in the fourth quarter in particular, but we just didn't lock down defensively and get stops."

China carried a 51 percent success rate from the field (32-of-63) while the U.S. shot 47 percent (33-of-70), but its true advantage came from the free throw line where it made 15-of-22 attempts comparted to 9-of-10 for the U.S.
The U.S. trailed 27-17 at the end of the first quarter and 47-39 at halftime. A 24-14 third quarter advantage saw the Americans take their first lead of the game, but China prevailed with a 23-18 fourth quarter.
Leslie missed a 3-pointer at the final buzzer which would have pushed the game to overtime.
"There's not any team, not any country, where you can come in with less than your best, not play well and then expect to walk out with a win," added Donovan. "That's been our challenge, trying to find the time for our players to get together and train. We simply haven't had it. We've trained different players at different times and right now Lisa's getting good experience. But we don't have our perimeter to work with her. Our challenge will be in July when we get together, we'll have to form that chemistry really quickly."
The U.S. was without point guard Lindsey Harding, who strained her knee in Thursday's contest versus China.
China's (5-1) only loss in the tournament came to the U.S. (4-2) on Thursday when the Americans won 86-61.
