NORMAN, Okla. - The Big 12 Conference announced the 2008 Academic All-Big 12 tennis team Tuesday, April 22 and for the 12th consecutive year, the University of Oklahoma had representatives on both the first and second team.

Senior Christi Baxley, a multidisciplinary studies major who will be graduating in May, represented OU on the first team, while senior Rachael Cox was named to the second team.  Cox is a human relations major also graduating in May.

"I am very proud of both these girls," OU head coach Mark Johnson said.  "It can be difficult to keep up your grades while playing college sports, but both these girls have made it a priority.  They have set great examples for the younger girls."

Baxley, who plays No. 2 doubles and No. 5 singles for the Sooners, was named first team her sophomore and junior seasons as well.

Cox is also a veteran to the Academic All-Big 12, making her second consecutive appearance on the second team.

To qualify for Academic All-Big 12, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his/her team's scheduled contests.  First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

Both seniors, along with the rest of the women's tennis team, will begin play at the Big 12 Championships, Thursday, April 24, in College, Station Texas.
