Sooners Fall to Colorado

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's team (10-11, 3-7) fell 7-0 to the University of Colorado (10-10, 7-3) Friday, April 18 at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
"Colorado is a good team," OU head Coach Mark Johnson said. "You have to give them credit. They out played us today."
Colorado took an early 1-0 lead, claiming doubles victories at the No. 2 and 3 positions.
The No. 1 duo of senior Chelsea Orr and freshman Ana-Maria Constantinescu were first off the court, earning Oklahoma's only doubles win. The Sooner pair defeated Monica Milewski and Camila Belassi 8-4.
"I'm pleased with the way Ana and Chelsea are playing," Johnson said.
Colorado took an 8-5 win over Christi Baxley and Tara Eckel and an 8-4 victory over Maria Kalashnikova and Elena Antakova.
In singles action, Colorado jumped to a 3-0 lead after taking wins at the No. 4 and 5 positions.
At the No. 4 spot, Antakova was defeated by Veera Nurmi in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, while Baxley fell 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 line.
Colorado sealed the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Eckel at the No. 6 spot.
Oklahoma will return to the courts, Saturday, April 19, to host Missouri for its final match of the regular season. The first serve is set for 11 a.m.
Saturday will also mark the last time seniors Chelsea Orr, Christi Baxley and Rachael Cox play at the Headington Family Tennis Center. The three Sooners will be recognized in a special ceremony following the match.
