NORMAN, Okla. -- Three-and-a-half weeks after scoring a game-high 23 points in the McDonald's All-American High School Game in Milwaukee, Wis., OU signee Willie Warren will take his traveling act to the world's most famous arena to compete in his second major all-star contest.
Warren is one of 22 high school seniors selected to participate in Saturday's 8 p.m. CDT Jordan Brand Classic to be played at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The event will be televised by ESPN2.
Warren, the only participant who has signed with a Big 12 school, will compete as a member of the White Team and will be coached by Russell Otis of Dominguez (Compton, Calif.) High School.
A 6-4 guard, Warren was 11-for-17 from the field in the March 26 McDonald's Game and added three steals. He was named the 2008 Gatorade Texas Boys' Basketball Player of the Year after averaging 24.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 3.4 steals per contest for the North Crowley Panthers. He led his squad to a 38-1 record and finished with 27 points and eight assists in a 73-67 Class 5A state title game victory over Fort Bend Dulles on March 8.
Current OU freshman Blake Griffin participated in last year's Jordan Brand Classic and finished with eight points and eight rebounds in 13 minutes of a 127-119 victory.
