A Special Spring Game Experience

NORMAN, Okla. -- It has been a whirlwind week for Shae and Kimberly Farmer.
Last Wednesday evening, the couple from Carrollton, Ga., learned they had won the online auction for an opportunity to put on the the headsets with the OU coaching staff and call a series of plays during the Spring Game. Even then, however, the couple had no idea what they were in store for.
Sure, they were excited. After all, Shae, a lifelong Sooner fan, had never even been to Oklahoma, much less to Memorial Stadium. But after a 13-hour drive and a few more hours of anxious anticipation, the couple finally arrived.
They began the day with a behind-the-scenes tour which included stops at the Everest Indoor Training Center and the Barry Switzer Center. They took in some of the history of Sooner football with a visit to Legends Lobby before heading downstairs for an exclusive look inside the locker room. Then, they made their way out to Owen Field to meet Coach Stoops and other members of the OU staff prior to kickoff.
But all of this was nothing compared to the thrill they were about to experience. Just moments after sitting down next to offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson up in the press box, Shae called for a pass to tight end Jermaine Gresham. The Sooners executed perfectly with a 51-yard touchdown strike, turning Shae's dream into a reality.
"Watching him today, I feel like it's Christmas and I'm watching my kids open up all their presents," Kimberly said at one point during the day. "He's just having the best time."
Shae's call was the talk of everyone in the stadium for the rest of the afternoon. Following the game, he had the opportunity to reflect on the call with Gresham and quarterback Sam Bradford while collecting autographs from many other players and coaches.
Now, after one special Saturday in Norman, Shae and Kimberly Farmer have a limitless supply of stories to tell of their once-in-a-lifetime experience.
