OU Men's Golf Stands 11th in 'Zona

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The University of Oklahoma men's golf team shot a first-round team score of 293 (+9) at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., on Friday, standing 11th after 18 holes. The Sooners were led by senior Phillip Bryan who carded an even-par 71 during opening-round action at the 7,057-yard, par-71 Karsten Golf Course and sits in a tie for 18th.
Reigning Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Jesse Schutte is in a group of players tied for 28th place in the 16-team field, one shot back of Bryan. Fellow sophomore Eric Durbin carded a 73 on the morning, standing in a tie for 33rd.
Rounding out the team scoring were Ben Blundell and Liam Logan who fired rounds of 77 and 78, respectively. Durbin is T66th on the leaderboard while Logan sits in 74th place.
Competing unattached from team scoring was freshman Ryan Sirman who fired an even-par 71 to join Bryan in 18th place.
Arizona State's "A" and "B" squads are tied for the overnight lead after both squads fired 5-under-par team totals on Friday. Braxton Marquez of the Sun Devils and New Mexico's Kyle Nielsen stand two shots clear of the field after tournament-opening 66s.

Second-round action begins at 8:47 a.m. (MT) for the Sooners as Liam Logan tees off on the 10th hole for Oklahoma. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
