Oklahoma Head Coach Jeff Capel
Opening comment:
"I wish we could say we drew it up like that. Texas Tech did a really good job of defending that last play. We were going to try to run a flat ball screen and open the floor up for Austin. We had had some success earlier in the game on ball screens. We didn't anticipate them trapping but they did a great job of that. David (Godbold) did a good job of making a read and coming up and being a pressure release. And he hit a heck of a shot. Maybe there's a little bit of luck involved, but we'll take it. We feel good to be on this end of it.
"It's a heck of win for us. We beat a really good team, a team that's undefeated here. I thought our kids showed a lot of heart, a lot of passion and we were able to make plays. I thought our zone was really good, very active for us. We were able to, for the most part, have an awareness for (John) Roberson and (Alan) Voskuil. They each got away from us one time in the second half, so we did a good job there. I'm really proud to get this win and I feel good about where we are right now."
On the play of Austin Johnson:
"He was great. This is two games in a row he's played really well for us. I met with A.J. on Monday and the first thing I asked him is, "How can I help you?" As a former player, a former guard, I've been where he was - struggling. We talked a little bit and then I showed him some tape of him from when we played West Virginia, when we played Arkansas and Gonzaga. I just told him, "Look at this guy right here. Look at how confident he is, look at the look you have in your eyes. You have to get that back.'
"I was like, 'A.J., it's not just about making shots. You had a swagger, you had a confidence, you ran our team. And when guys looked at you they saw that. You completely lost yourself in the team in each of those games. You have to get back to that, because the longer you feel sorry for yourself that you're not playing well, you're going to continue to (not) play well.'
"After practice on Monday he and I did some stuff on the floor. He's played well for us. I've said it before; we're a different team when he plays well. He's an important guy for us."
Oklahoma Senior Guard David Godbold
On if his game-winning 3-pointer felt good when it left his hand:
"I was pretty confident that it was on line. It looked straight. I was thinking in my head, because I shot it high, I was like, 'Please just go in, or give us a chance to get a tip-in. I'm glad it went down."
On what the win means to the team:
"This is a really big win for us. They were undefeated at home and we knew that they take pride in taking care of their home court. They come out and give their best effort at home. So, if we could get this win it would kind of change our season around and have us heading in a good direction."
Oklahoma Junior Guard Austin Johnson
On his performance:
"I live about an hour away from here and knowing that I had all my family and friends and my high school coach coming down, I kind of had pressure on me to have a big game. I really didn't let that get to me. I just came out and threw myself into the team. I just played hard and it just came to me. I just let it flow."
