Sooners Post 4-1 Record to Open Fall

Daescu Set for ITA Championships

NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma junior Andrei Daescu completes the men's tennis fall schedule in Charlottesville, Va., at the 2008 ITA National Indoor Championships this weekend.

Hosted by the University of Virginia, the tournament begins Thursday with the champion crowned Sunday afternoon at the Boar's Head Sports Club.

No. 22 rated- Daescu, 5-3 on the year, faces Bogdan Borta of the University of Columbia in his first match on Thursday morning.

Tournament Notes
-Overall, nearly 10,000 players and 600 schools participate in the Wilson/ITA Regional and National Intercollegiate Championships and the start of the National Indoor Championships on Thursday marks the final 32 players left in competition.

-The tournament marks the second of three national championships in the 2008-2009 tennis season. In the first national championship, the D'Novo ITA All-American held in Tulsa, Okla., Daescu finished with a 2-2 record in the main singles draw.

-Daescu is one of only five at-large bids to the 2008 National Indoor Championships men's singles bracket.

-Daescu has defeated two top 50 players in No. 34 Boise State's Clancy Shields, and Big 12 rival No. 44 Dominik Mueller from Baylor thus far this season.
