NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The University of Oklahoma men's golf squad travels to New Haven, Conn., on Saturday for the 54-hole Macdonald Cup, hosted by Yale University at the Course at Yale. The tournament begins at 6 a.m. (CT) Saturday, with two rounds on the opening day, and the final 18 holes being contested on Sunday.
OU's lineup features Eric Durbin, Liam Logan, Cameron Meyers, Riley Pumphrey and Chris Wilson. The event marks the season debut for Durbin, while Meyers and Wilson are set for their first collegiate tournament in the starting five.
“It's always nice to compete against some squads from across the country that we don't see every week,” said head coach Jim Ragan. “This is an event that we haven't competed in before and we are excited to get back to action at one of the best university courses in the country.”
The tournament is named after Yale course architect Charles Blair Macdonald. Winner of the first U.S. Amateur in 1895, Macdonald also co-founded the United States Golf Association. The Course at Yale opened in 1926 and has previously been ranked by Golf Digest as the No. 1 college golf course in America.
Joining the Sooners in the 14-team field are Binghamton, Bryant, Central Connecticut, Dartmouth, Emory, Flagler, Fordham, Harvard, Holy Cross, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, UConn and Yale.
