NORMAN, Okla. -- In preparation for the 2009 season, Soonersports.com will help fans get to know the new faces around the diamond at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
Throughout the rest of the semester, SoonerSports.com will feature one of the Sooners' 15 newcomers that will join a group of 18 letterwinners from the 2008 team that advanced to the Tempe Regional Finals before falling to then-No. 4 Arizona State.
Each spotlight will include an updated bio, Q&A session and videos of each player in action from the Red/White Series and a scouting report from OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway.
The second installment focuses on junior right-handed pitcher Jason Chowning from Louisville, Ky. The junior was drafted in the 43rd round in 2007 by the New York Yankees
Chowning earned two letters at Texarkana College and helped lead the Bulldogs to two Regional Tournaments. Chowning won nine games at Texarkana and was the staff's ace in 2008.
As a freshman, Chowning ranked third in the nation in strikeouts to innings pitched, with 69 Ks in 51 frames. During his final season, Chowning struck out 58 batters in 65 innings and posted a 3.46 ERA, the lowest amongst the team's starting pitchers.
