NORMAN, Okla. --  The OU Rowing team had a successful day at the Head of the Colorado Regatta in Austin, Texas. The Varsity and Novice squads both competed in the 5,000 meter head race today, marking the first time that OU's novice squad has ever competed.

The Varsity team placed 3rd in the Women's Fours (W4+) out of 20 entries. OU entered three novice teams in the Women's Eights (W8+), two teams in the Novice-1 category, placing second and seventh, and one team in the Novice-2 category, placing third.

The coaches were pleased with everyone's performance. "This was a successful day for OU Rowing," Head Coach Leeanne Crain said. "Our varsity four raced well, finishing third out of 20, and our novice squad is showing a lot of promise, with silver and bronze medal performances in their respective events."

Assistant Coach Andy Derrick was also excited about the results. "I was really pleased with all the performances that our rowers put out today," Derrick said. "One of our novice squads was only 11 seconds behind Texas, and we will get another crack at them the next time we compete. Overall, I think today proved a great starting ground for our teams."
