FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Sergey Avdeyev, Ionut Beleleu and Andrei Daescu are among the 16 players left at the ITA Central Regional Championships. I
TA's No. 122, Avdeyev faced off against Patrick Collins of Tulsa in first round action, taking the match 6-3, 7-5. The tournament's No. 5 seed, Avdeyev then took on Guilherne Mariglia of Drake, putting him away 6-2, 6-3. Next up for Avdeyev is Serge Ristivojevic from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Beleleu stayed hot, extending his fall singles record to 9-1 by defeating Konrad Kanizelich of Drake 6-0, 6-1, and Taylor King of Arkansas 6-4, 6-1. Beleleu will take on No. six seed Calin Paar of Nebraska on Saturday morning.
Daescu, ITA No. 22, squared off with Francois Van Impe of Nebraska in his morning match, downing Van Impe in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (6). From there No. two seeded Daescu went on to face Phil Stephens of Tulsa, eliminating him 6-3, 7-5.
Freshman George Chanturia was also in action on Friday. Chanturia disposed of Scott McCormick of Wichita State 6-1, 6-2, before falling in his second round match to No. 7 seed Matt Hogan of Arkansas 6-4, 6-1.
The fifth Sooner in action, Blake Boswell failed to capture the first round victory, bowing to No. 10 seed Nathan Byrnes of Oklahoma State 6-2, 6-4. After advancing in the consolation bracket, Boswell will take on Francois Van Impe of Nebraska on Saturday.
The five Sooners in action collected a cumulative record of 8-2 on the second day of play.
