NORMAN, Okla. -- The Red team claimed an 11-6 victory in game four on Friday of the Red/White Series behind four RBIs off the bat of junior Ross Hubbard and three scoreless innings from sophomore Antwonie Hubbard on the mound.
The win assured the Red team of the series win, while the fifth and final game of the series will be played on Saturday at 10 a.m.
“I am really proud of the effort and intensity displayed by both teams throughout this series,” said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. “Even though the series has been decided, I know both teams will bring that same enthusiasm to the park tomorrow.”
Ross Hubbard gave his team a 3-0 lead in the first inning off junior Jeremy Erben (0-1) with a double to right field. The extra-base hit cleared the bases and scored three unearned runs after an error on senior Matt Harughty at shortstop.
While Ross Hubbard, a newcomer, powered the offense, returner Antwonie Hubbard (1-0) tossed three innings in the start and did not surrender a run off two hits and a walk, while striking out four.
The White team narrowed the gap to one run in the top of the fourth on redshirt freshman Garrett Buechele's hard-hit ball to center field that went off the glove of sophomore Elliott Blair. The play was scored an error and scored juniors Jamie Johnson and Aaron Baker.
Red extended its lead after it batted around the lineup in the fourth inning with five runs off two hits. The decisive frame was capped off by a two-run single by freshman Jordan Imhoff after Hubbard, junior Bryant Hernandez and sophomore Casey Johnson each connected for RBI singles.
The White team chipped away at the lead in the top of the fifth frame with another pair of runs driven in by Jamie Johnson and Buechele to cut the lead to 8-4.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Red team countered again with three more runs to put the game away on a RBI single from Hernandez and back-to-back RBI singles from junior Kaleb Herren and senior J.T. Wise.
Outside of Antwonie Hubbard's pitching performance, offense was the story on Friday as four members of each squad recorded multiple-hit performances.
Blair (2-for-4, three runs), Hernandez (2-for-4, two RBIs, three runs), Wise (2-for-2, two runs, RBI) and Hubbard (2-for-2, four RBIs) paced the Red's offense while Tyler Ogle (2-for-4, run), Jamie Johnson (2-for-4, two runs, RBI), Baker (2-for-3, run, RBI) and Tyson Seng (2-for-3, RBI) led the White squad.
Junior Chase Anderson will throw for the White team in game five on Saturday opposite junior Garrett Richards for the Red. The game is free and open to the public with first pitch slated for 10 a.m.
