OU Rowing Competes in First Regatta

Norman, Okla.- The University of Oklahoma's newest addition to athletics, women's rowing, will participate in its first ever competition this weekend at Oklahoma City University's very own Head of the Oklahoma, located in downtown Oklahoma City at Regatta Park.

The new OU varsity squad will compete Saturday, Oct. 4, at 2:10 p.m. in the WO4+ competition (Women's Open 4 with coxswain) and Sunday, Oct. 5,  at 8:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. in the WO2- (Women's Open Coxless Pair) and the W1x Collegiate (Women's Collegiate Single Scull) competitions.

The 2008 Oklahoma Regatta Festival marks the fifth anniversary of the OCU's Head of the Oklahoma. The Regatta will kick off the festivities Friday, Oct. 3, at 5:00 p.m. Head of the Oklahoma is one of the nation's top rowing regattas, combining the sport's time honored traditions with new and exciting features that accommodate everyone's interests with live music, dancing, food, and wine tasting.

Head coach Leeanne Crain, previously at the University of Central Florida, has been getting her new squad ready since the team compiled on September 12. They have been practicing on the Oklahoma River and using the Chesapeake Boathouse, while utilizing the brand new equipment provided by the University.
