NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team plays its first in-state match Friday, Feb. 1, at 10:30 a.m. at Willow Creek Golf and Country Club in Oklahoma City.
The Sooners go head-to head with Oklahoma Baptist University for the 11th time in program history. Oklahoma owns a 10-0 series lead over OBU.
"We always enjoy competing with OBU," OU head coach Mark Johnson said. "It is a great atmosphere and a match that gives lots of players on each team a chance to compete. We are also really looking forward to playing in state. We only have two matches in Oklahoma until March, so it will be very nice to be close to home."
Oklahoma is coming off a three-day, three-team match played Jan. 25-27 in Milwaukee, Wis. The Sooners went 2-1, defeating the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Marquette University and falling to Ohio State University.
The Sooners are led by 33-ranked Ana-Maria Constantinescu. The freshman, from Bucharest, Romania, holds a 3-0 record at the No. 1 singles position.
"Ana-Maria is really playing great," Johnson said. "She has really brought a consistency to the team."
