NORMAN, Okla. - The No. 17 Oklahoma wrestling team is back in action this Friday, Feb. 1, in a non-conference matchup versus Arizona State (9-4) at the Howard McCasland Field House in Norman at 7 p.m.

The match concludes OU's sixth consecutive dual in the state of Oklahoma. Admission is free to the public and doors open one hour prior to the match.

The Sooners (11-3, 0-2 in Big 12) are coming off a home loss last Friday, Jan. 25, to Iowa State. The Cyclones upended OU by a 31-3 final.

"We expect our team to dig deep and have a great showing Friday versus the Sun Devils," head coach Jack Spates said. "It is time for our team to step up from here on out."

This is the 37th meeting between the two schools. The Sooners lead the all-time series by a 22-13-1 record. Last season, Oklahoma traveled to Tempe, Ariz., and defeated Arizona State handily by a 31-9 final tally.

Oklahoma has six ranked headed into Friday's match. Zack Bailey is ranked No. 15 at 141 pounds and Brian Shelton and Will Rowe are No. 13 at 133 and 149 pounds, respectively. Chad Terry is 20th at 157 pounds and Joshua Weitzel is No. 7 at 184 pounds. Senior Joel Flaggert rounds out the list at No. 5 at 197 pounds.

The Sun Devils have two ranked in this week's poll. Anthony Robles and Brent Chriswell are No. 14 at 125 and 184 pounds, respectively.

Friday evening will mark alumni night for past Sooner wrestling greats, who will be on hand after the match to sign autographs. Wayne Wells will also be honored and available for autographs. The first 250 fans arriving to the match will receive a Wells photo.

While at OU, Wells was a two-time All-American, a three-time conference champion and winner of the 1969 individual national championship. His wrestling career was highlighted by winning the gold medal at the 1972 Olympics.

The OCU women's wrestling team will also participate in a pre-match demonstration for fans.

"It is going to be a great weekend with numerous national champions and Sooner wrestling legends in town," Spates said. "Our team looks to give them a great showing against Arizona State."
