NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma men's basketball team got an early jump on the 2007-08 season by virtue of its three-day, four-game tour of the Vancouver, British Columbia, area last weekend.

Jeff Capel's squad played four games in 40 hours and posted a 4-0 record, with wins at the University of British Columbia (81-62), Simon Fraser (86-57), Trinity Western (107-58) and Douglas College (90-61).  OU's average winning margin was 31.5 points.

Four Sooners averaged double figures in points, paced by true freshman Blake Griffin's 18.8 scoring average (in just 19.8 minutes per game).  Senior Longar Longar, freshman Cade Davis and sophomore Keith Clark also averaged at least 10.0 points per outing. Griffin, who is the younger brother of OU junior Taylor Griffin, averaged a team-high 9.0 rebounds per contest.

A pair of guards who started the majority of OU's games last year did not make the trip.  Junior Austin Johnson and sophomore Tony Crocker stayed in Oklahoma due to injuries.

"I can't be more proud of our group so far," said Capel Monday morning following OU's final game against a Douglas College team that beat Boise State the previous day.  "They've done a great job with the practices and how they've handled most of the things we've gone through.

"We feel good about where we are.  As far as who we are, that's still a work in progress.  We're missing two very key players for us right now (in Crocker and Johnson), and getting them back will only help us get better."

The Sooners play two home exhibition games on Oct. 31 and Nov. 2 before opening the regular season at home on Nov. 8 in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer.  For ticket information, call the OU Athletics Ticket Office at (800) 456-4668 or (405) 325-2424.
