NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma baseball team reported to L. Dale Mitchell Park on Wednesday to begin individual workouts in preparation for the 2008 season. The Sooners will begin team practices on Oct. 10.
OU finished the 2007 season at 34-24 overall and returns three position starters from that squad in senior Aljay Davis and sophomores Aaron Baker and Bryant Hernandez. In addition, seniors Jarod Freeman, Mike Gosse and Drew Roberts and sophomores Bryan Groth and Zach Hedges saw time in the field in 2007.
The Sooners also return five pitchers with at least 12 appearances in 2007 in senior Ryan Mottern, juniors Nick Conaway and Stephen Porlier and sophomores Andrew Doyle and Garrett Richards.
Joining the returners will be seven freshmen, nine JUCO transfers and two Division I transfers.
Each week throughout the remainder of the year, Soonersports.com will feature one of the Sooners' newcomers with an updated bio, Q&A session and a series of videos featuring a scouting report from OU head coach Sunny Golloway.
The first week's installment focuses on sophomore outfielder Jamie Johnson. The 2007 junior college All-American comes from Texarkana Junior College where he hit .474 and stole 21 bases. Johnson was also named the conference's freshman of the year after Texarkana won the league title.
