NORMAN, Okla. -- Freshman point guard Danielle Robinson has been cleared by the Oklahoma doctors to return to basketball related activities.
Robinson was sidelined with a broken right hand since she arrival in Norman on June 2. The California native will be limited in some strength and conditioning drills, but will not be held back on the court.
"I know she is anxious to join her teammates in pickup games," said OU women's basketball trainer Carolyn Loon. "This is never the way you envision starting your collegiate career, but she was attentive to her rehab and that helped her heal at the predicted pace."
Robinson was a five-star recruit out of Archbishop Mitty high school in San Jose, Calif. As a senior, she averaged 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals while leading her high school to the California State Division II Championship.
She is expected to immediately provide depth at the point guard position alongside returning starter Jenna Plumley. Robinson was considered by many as the fastest high school senior in the country and is known for her uncanny ability to get to the hoop and finish. Her defensive skills and floor leadership are also considered strengths.
Loon also updated the status of Amanda Thompson, who had shoulder surgery in late April. Thompson's rehab has gone well and she is still on pace to be cleared for full participation in September.
Earlier this week, the sophomore forward was cleared to return to footwork and dribbling drills, as well as light lifting and running. Thompson is also allowed to shoot within a minimal distance.
The majority of the OU basketball team is attending July summer session. OU will begin preseason conditioning during the first week of the fall semester (Aug. 20-24) and begin practicing on October 12.
