Five Sooners Earn CGA Honors

NORMAN, Okla. - Five members of the Oklahoma men's gymnastics team were named All-America Scholar-Athletes by the College Gymnastics Association Monday.

"We put great emphasis on performing in the gym and in the classroom," OU head coach Mark Williams said.  "I congratulate our student-athletes on their achievements."

Sophomores Wes Aderhold and Russell Czeschin earned first team honors for the second consecutive season.  Aderhold, a drama major, owns a 3.875 grade point average, while Czeschin holds a 3.645 in health and exercise science.

OU's second team honorees included Brian Carr (petroleum engineering), Joseph Weaver (health and exercise science) and Jonathan Horton (management).

Carr, a senior on OU's 2007 NCAA runner-up squad, earned All-America recognition for the third straight season, while Horton earned the distinction for the second time.

Horton also earned All-America status on the competition floor at the 2007 NCAA Championships, April 14, in State College, Pa.  The Houston, Texas, was the NCAA champion on floor and high bar and was named an All-American on both events, as well as on vault, rings and in the all-around.

Czeschin also earned his first career All-America honor on floor at the NCAA Championships.

The College Gymnastics Association honored 71 individual gymnasts as 2007 first team All-America Scholar-Athletes for attaining at least a 3.50 grade point average and 48 second team All-American Scholar-Athletes for attaining a grade point average between 3.2 and 3.499.
