Mossman Prophecies No. 020

Want to see your name in the paper every day without
the aid of local law enforcement? Mix a medical
degree with clairvoyance.
That's right, learn to read an x-ray before it's
taken and you're bound to get plenty of media
exposure.
Not even the great Bob Stoops can do it. The OU
football coach had to wait around like the rest of
us for the doctors to report the news to him Monday
morning that Adrian Peterson is not ready to play football
again.
That definitive answer derailed the most baseless
speculation this side of the Switzer Center training
room.
Stoops tried to add some realism to the situation last
week when he confessed that his diploma from the University
of Iowa was not from the medical school, but that was
barely a speed bump to the guessing game that ran right
into Monday morning.
Poor Bob was being asked to do for someone else something
that we can't even do for ourselves.
At the present time, I am wearing one of those big,
ugly black boots in an attempt to heal a heel condition
that has been bugging me for months. Guess what
it is that I have been wondering all this time. I
am wondering when it will stop hurting. I have
no earthly idea.
You could ask me every day for the next two weeks when
it is that I won't have to wear Herman Munster's
left shoe any more and I could not tell you. What's
more is that my doctor couldn't tell you either. It's
healing... in it's time.
Ditto for Adrian's collarbone, although I grudgingly
admit that there is more interest in his injury than
mine.
But the point is the same. The human body heals
when it heals and despite all of the prognostications,
diagnosis, health histories and flat-out guessing,
nobody will know anything until a physician holds up
a piece of film to light and says, “Adrian,
you're good to go.”
In the meantime he's out, and the speculation
rages on to bowl week.
Somebody pass me the Ouigi board. I'll drop
it off over at Dr., er. Coach Stoops' office. Maybe
we can cut down on the wait.
