Porlier & Reza Taken in 21st Round

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma shortstop Aaron Reza and right-hander Stephen Porlier were drafted in the 21st round of the 2007 MLB Draft on Friday.

Reza was selected 654th overall by the Boston Red Sox and Porlier was taken 660th overall by the Oakland Athletics. The selections are career firsts for both Sooners.

Reza was recently named to the ABCA All-Midwest Second Team on June 7 and was tabbed an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention by the conference's coaches following a junior season that saw him hit .332 with 39 RBIs.

Despite missing the first six games of the season due to a broken left wrist, Reza finished second among all Sooners with 23 multi-hit games and third with 11 multi-RBI games. During his first 12 games following the return from injury, Reza drove in 17 runs off 16 hits.

The Patterson, Calif., native finished the season as the starting third baseman but played the majority of the season at short stop (51 starts overall). In addition, Reza was named to the All-Big 12 Championship Team after hitting .500 in the three games of the tournament. In 2006, he was a Second Team All-Big 12 member after lasting the regular season without committing an error.

Porlier was one of two Sooners to be named to the All-Big 12 Second Team by the Big 12 coaches (Jackson Williams). Porlier, who transferred from Tulane, started the 2007 season in the Sooners' bullpen but quickly moved into the No. 1 spot in the starting rotation. He led the team with 15 starts and 99 strikeouts, a mark that led the Big 12 prior to the NCAA Tournament.

The Sugarland, Texas, native finished the season with a 7-5 record, the same mark he recorded in 2006 at Tulane. He tossed five scoreless outings, including the first complete-game shutout of his career on April 14 against Nebraska and lasted five or more innings in 14 of his 15 starts.
