Media Name Baker Top Freshman

May 23, 2007 | Baseball

NORMAN, Okla. -- OU freshman first baseman Aaron Baker was selected by two newspapers from around the Big 12 Conference as the top freshman in 2007.  The Daily Oklahoman (Oklahoma City) and Fort Worth Star Telegram (Fort Worth, Texas) both tabbed Baker as the league's top freshman this season.

Baker began the 2007 season by hitting in 22 consecutive games, an OU freshman record.  That mark also ranks third all-time at OU behind Derek Wathan's 25-game mark (1997-1998) and Marty Neff's 27-game streak (1991).  The first baseman is second on the club with 47 RBIs and is fifth among all Sooners with a .315 batting average.

Oklahoma begins the 2007 Phillips 66 Big 12  on Wednesday, May 23 at 5 p.m. against Missouri.  The Sooners enter the game, set to be played at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, seeded seventh while the Tigers are the No. 2 seed.
