OU Heads to Final Round in Eighth

Men's Golf Season Comes to a Close

SUGAR GROVE, Ill.   The Oklahoma men's golf team's season came to an end Saturday in Sugar Grove, Ill., as the Sooners finished in a tie for 21st, failing to earn one of 10 spots into the NCAA Championships to be held May 30-June 2 in Williamsburg, Va.

OU shot a team score of 317 (+29) in the third round to finish at 943 (+79).  The cut line for the advancing teams was +54.

In his final collegiate event, senior J.J. Wood finished the tournament in a tie for 29th after a final-round 75.  The Pepperdine transfer was +11 for the 54-hole event.

Freshman Ben Blundell matched yesterday's 4-over-par 76, finishing the event at +20 and in a tie for 82nd.

Burlington, Iowa, native Nick Sheedy closed his collegiate career in an 89th-place tie after shooting 83 on Saturday.  Phillip Bryan carded a three-round total of 247 (+31) for a 123rd place in the standings after firing his second consecutive 83. 

Rounding out the OU scoring was Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Jesse Schutte who finished the event in 133rd after rounds of 87, 79 and 88. 

Tulsa won the event after a final-round team total of 310 (+22), finishing the event at 895 (+31). 

Other teams moving on to the NCAA Championships from the NCAA Central Regional include Alabama (+34), Louisville (+35), Lamar (+36), Tennessee (+40), Oklahoma State (+42), Texas Tech (+43), Michigan State (+51), Texas (+52) and Minnesota (+54).

Overnight leader Dawie Van Der Walt of Lamar held on for co-medalist honors with Wisconsin's Dan Woltman at 215 (-1).
