Academic All-Big 12 Team Announced

NORMAN, Okla. The No. 2 Oklahoma softball team posted four Sooners on the Academic All-Big 12 teams. Leading the pack were first-team honorees Stacia Aleman, Norrelle Dickson and Jamie Fox. Rounding out the second team was Savannah Long.
Aleman was recognized for her 4.0 GPA in the fall and was one of only four Big 12 softball players to record a perfect GPA. It marked Aleman's third straight Academic All-Big 12 first-team honor.
It marked Fox and Dickson's second academic honor of the day as both were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI Softball First Team early this morning. Fox collected her third straight Academic All-Big 12 first-team honor as did Dickson.
Long is making her first appearance on the Academic All-Big 12 squad as second team honoree.

OU has recorded 53 All-Big 12 Academic honors since the start of the conference in 1996.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the academic all-league softball squad consisted of 43 first team members combined with 16 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The second-seeded Sooners will open Big 12 Championship play on Friday at 4:30 p.m. Friday against the winner of Iowa State/Kansas, who play at 11 a.m. Friday morning.
