Sooners Finish 13th in Indiana

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The University of Oklahoma men's golf team finished in 13th place at the Boilermaker Invitational Sunday at the par-72, 7,338-yard Kampen course in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Sooners recorded a team score of 298 (+10), besting Saturday's opening round by 23 strokes. The scoring improvement from Saturday's play tied the largest rebound of any squad in the 15-team event, hosted by Purdue.

Senior Nick Sheedy paced OU with an even-par 72 and finished in a tie for 22nd. Jesse Schutte rebounded from an opening-round 82 by matching Sheedy's 72 and placed in a tie for 36th.

After carding a first-round 80, Phillip Bryan finished in a tie for 52nd after shooting a 4-over-par 76. Freshman Ben Blundell was two strokes back of Bryan, in a tie for 60th, after a 78.

Rounding out the OU scoring was senior J.J. Wood who moved into a tie for 70th after carding a final-round 6-over-par 78, improving five shots over yesterday's 83.

Michigan State won the team title by nine strokes over first round leader Purdue after a final-round 4-over-par 292. Overnight leader Ryan Brehm of Michigan State gave the Spartans the sweep by earning medalist honors with his 2-under-par 70.

The Sooners return to the links April 13 at the Sun Devil Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., for their final tune-up before traveling to Hutchinson, Kan., on April 23 to try and repeat as the Big 12 champs.
