Schutte Fires Career Low, OU 17th

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii Jesse Schutte fired a collegiate career-low 3-under-par 67 during the opening round of the Hawaii-Hilo Intercollegiate to finish tied for 10th after Wednesday's play.

The Sooners shot their best round of the season, 285 (+5), but on a day with perfect scoring conditions, found themselves in 17th place after their first round of the spring season.

“Jesse played very well, something we are excited to see,” said head coach Jim Ragan. “As a team we got off to another slow start but give the guys credit, especially Jesse and J.J. (Wood), in the way that they played the back nine.”

No. 2 Stanford is the leader in the clubhouse after opening with a 12-under-par 268. The Cardinal had four players in red figures including Joseph Bramlett who is tied for the individual lead after carding a 6-under-par 64. Georgia Tech's Cameron Tringale, last year's Hawaii-Hilo Intercollegiate individual champion, is tied with Bramlett at six under.

Wood, the lone senior on the OU squad, is tied for 47th at even par. The Yuma, Ariz., native opened with a front-nine 37 but responded nicely, playing the back nine in 2-under par.

Junior Phillip Bryan and freshman Eric Durbin shot matching 74s. Rounding out the Oklahoma scoring was freshman Ben Blundell who opened with a 76.
